I found this article motivating and a little inspiring. Too often I'm too hard on myself for not writing and it is a self-perpetuating cycle.

Day 86 - The New Girl

A rough Wednesday. A new 'New Girl' episode at night. It's like comfort t.v. Yes, I'm a public fan.

A Tuesday night at the Troubadour seeing the Heartless Bastards. Whiskey-soaked evening indeed.

The Moviegoers - Side Effects

It took a little while to get this one up. But The Moviegoers head back to the cinema! Time to talk Soderbergh and his 'final' theatrical film, Side Effects.

Dranno

Is some very strong stuff. Shower was fully clogged, standing water and all. A bottle of dranno took it down in a mere minutes.
I could see Harmony Korine releasing a film called Dranno, a follow-up to Gummo. Or maybe Todd Solodnz.

The Velvet Underground - Loaded

Re-discovered this album recently. Always been a fan of Lonesome Cowboy Bill and Oh Sweet Nuthin' on side 2. But Side 1 is one of the great flawless album sides. Flows so smoothly . New Age is a perfect closer.

A True Chicago Bear

Brian Urlacher and the Bears can't come to a financial agreement. And he has left the team. 

Even as he physically ages, the Bears won't be the same without him in heart and spirit. I miss #54 already.

Jason Molina (Songs:Ohia / Magnolia Electric Co.)

I listened to Magnolia Electric Co. briefly at some point but for whatever reason didn't get too deep into his catalog.  It feels like time to re-discover his work.
He lived in Indianapolis. Aged 39.

Day 71 - Tom Bergin's

A Tuesday night at Tom Bergin's Irish pub. Food and drinks with Jake as he goes off to N.C. to shoot scenes from Carolina Highway Killer. Age, girls, and The Master are the big topics of conversation.

Day 67 - Meat

Moe at the Henry Fonda courtesy of Brower. Grabbed dinner with the band prior to the show at Loteria Grill.

Following a lukewarm first set where the band was a bit tepid, they warmed-up significantly during intermission and the second set opener went deep, and dark for forty minutes.  The clear highlight of the show. Meat -> Other One -> Meat.

The Master

Been re-visiting and thinking about The Master. This is an insightful interview with Paul Thomas Anderson... including the influences on the film and what it is trying to achieve.
(Elvis Mitchell is the interviewer and as normal he's a little exasperating.)

Day 62 - Burn!

Burn! (Queimada) at the New Bev, 5pm.
Had no idea that I was walking into revolutionary cinema. Stirring score & love this late 60s era Marlon Brando. The seeds of a huge epic, but...
The film is exhausting. And the first 30 minutes is messy, fell asleep and woke up in a daze.
At its best, two strong willed men cut out of the same cloth who used to be friends a la Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid.

Megan Ellison

Vanity Fair piece on the movie producer/financier.  She's young. And has 'fuck-you' money.

Pretty but a bit overweight, with hunched shoulders, she has a slacker vibe. She drives a gray ’89 Aston Martin or rides one of her motorcycles, often has a Camel cigarette in hand, and rarely wears makeup. Partial to butch, grunge chic, she usually wears a uniform of army boots, denim jeans, and a hoodie pulled over the T-shirt of an old-school rock band, like Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. She can come across as well read and shy, but then might say something strangely blunt and uncomfortable and laugh at it. She talks extremely fast, especially when trying to make a point, with her words getting caught up in one another, or slowly and deliberately, especially when she’s upset.
